Faces of Tech: Emma Van Everbroeck, Business Analyst
Part of our Faces of Tech series, we introduce Emma Van Everbroeck, Business Analyst at Business Elements Reply. Combining a thoughtful approach to problem-solving with a strong sense of fairness and collaboration, Emma brings perspective and structure to complex projects. Drawing on her experience across challenging environments and meaningful institutional initiatives, she focuses on anticipating risks, supporting teams and helping colleagues grow, while keeping communication, trust and integrity at the heart of her work.
What moment or experience significantly changed how you approach your work today?
A moment that significantly changed how I approach my work was going through a particularly challenging client experience. It was an environment that made me reflect deeply on the kind of professional relationships and working culture that truly enable people to perform at their best. Since then, I have become much more aware of the importance of clear communication, mutual respect, and healthy boundaries in any project.
That experience helped me grow. It taught me that delivering good work is not only about technical skills or commitment, but also about creating the right conditions for collaboration and trust over time.
What is one project, initiative, or problem you worked on that you consider meaningful and why?
One project I consider especially meaningful was my work on a large institutional initiative with a strong public impact. What made it important to me was the feeling that the work went beyond the project itself and contributed, in a broader sense, to systems and services designed to support society. I found it meaningful because it connected everyday work with a wider purpose.
When facing complexity, how do you move forward?
When I am facing complexity, my first instinct is to take a step back rather than react immediately. Creating a bit of distance helps me clear my mind, regain perspective, and avoid getting lost in the noise of the moment. Sometimes that simply means stepping away for a while, going outside, and giving myself the space to think more clearly.
Once I have that distance, I like to organise my thoughts with pen and paper. Writing things down helps me tackle a complex situation into smaller parts and bring structure to what initially feels unclear. It is a simple process, but it is one of the most effective for me.
Can you describe a situation where you had to make an important decision with limited information? What guided you?
When I have had to make important decisions with limited information, what guided me first was instinct shaped by previous experience. I rely on the patterns and lessons I have experienced before. I also seek advice from management and peers, because different perspectives often help validate assumptions, highlight risks, or reveal options I may not have considered on my own.
What do your teams rely on you for?
My teams rely on me for foresight and perspective. I tend to notice risks, dependencies, and critical issues early, which helps the team prepare before a situation becomes urgent.
They also rely on me for guidance and support, especially when it comes to sharing experience with younger consultants. I try to use my expertise not only to solve problems directly, but also to help others grow and build confidence.
What is one principle or belief that consistently guides how you deliver your work?
A principle that consistently guides how I deliver my work is a strong sense of fairness. Even if it can be challenging in day-to-day reality, I try to let that value shape how I make decisions, collaborate with others. For me, fairness means approaching work with integrity and treating people with respect.
